Myrrh (Commiphora molmol)

1 ounce - sold by weight

Myrrh, much like frankincense, is harvested by scoring the bark of the small, thorny Commiphora myrrha tree, which bleeds the resin. The gum is waxy and dries quickly, then is harvested and dried further. Myrrh gum is yellow and will darken deeply as it ages, often with white streaks emerging. It has a smoky, earthy scent, and has been used as far back as 3000 BCE. Always valued, the ancient Romans valued it almost as much as gold, and it could be used to pay debts.

Country of Origin: Somalia

Occult Properties: Highly prized, and one of the holiest of incense. Myrrh has a high vibration and is frequently used in purification. It is rarely burned alone and is often mixed with Frankincense or other resins. Myrrh was burned in the Temple of Ra at sunrise, and also in the temples of Isis. The scent of myrrh can attract spirits, and it is recommended blending it with Frankincense, in order to only attract friendly spirits.
