Lavender Flowers (Lavandula angustifolia)

1 ounce - sold by weight

Lavender is native to the Mediterranean, and the use of lavender traces back thousands of years. The first recorded uses include being used in the ancient Egyptian mummification process, but it was also used by the ancient Greeks and Romans for bathing, cooking, and perfumes. The name lavender comes from the Latin ‘lavare,’ which means to wash. Used in many applications, it has long believed to be an aphrodisiac and is one of the most recognizable scents in the world.

Country of Origin: France

Occult Properties: Lavender is used in a wide array of occult and magical workings, and can be used for love, healing, purification, and protection. Clothing rubbed with lavender flowers, or wearing a sachet of lavender, attracts the love you desire, and lavender scented paper is excellent for writing love spells, or love letters. It works well with both sexes. Despite this, during the Renaissance, it was believed that lavender, paired with rosemary, would preserve a woman’s chastity. Old English folklore says a mixture of Lavender, Mugwort, Chamomile, and Rose Petals can attract elves, sprites, brownies, and faeries.
