Gum Arabic is harvested by tapping the bark of the acacia tree. Today it is mainly harvested in Sudan, but was historically cultivated in Arabia and West Asia. Gum Arabic is water-soluble, edible, and primarily used in food production as a stabilizer. It can also be found in inks, paint, glue, and cosmetics. In herbal medicine, it is used to bind pills and lozenges. It is also known as Acacia.
