Frankincense has been harvested and traded for more than 5,000 years. It is mentioned in many ancient writings and depicted in mural found in an Egyptian temple dedicated to the female pharaoh Hatshepsut. The resin is collected by scorning the bark of the Boswellia family of trees, allowing the resin to flow from the cuts, and dry. The hardened resin is collected from the trees and allowed to dry further.
